Gary Lian is a dedicated and serious ballroom dancer. He likes Salsa too! He is living in the Washington D.C. area, and goes to nearby dance studios every often.
He also likes a lot of other things in life, such as physics, algorithms, thinking, reading, hanging out with friends, sports. He usually keeps a good upbeat attitude towards life, but deep in his heart he knows that life is meaningless. So he chose to live his meaningless life to its fullest.
Update (June 3, 2008): Gary is moving to Northern California! He just found a job there working for a small startup company. He will be living in the SF bay area starting mid June. He will spend his day time on algorithms and physics, which are his favorite subjects! At night and in the weekends, he will keep dancing ballroom. Of course he miss all his dance friends in DC and he will definitely come back to visit them!

Because there is no universal answer to THE QUESTION (Meaning of Life). I gradually started to believe that the meaning of life is whatever people give to it. Religious people believe in God or other deity, scientist believe in nature, egoist believe in themselves. Different people give different meanings to their lives.
This view of life may be pessimistic on the first look, but it isn’t. Actually when you believe life is meaningless, you can choose to live whatever way you want. I chose to live my life in the way that fits my character. But I know that does not mean my way is better than others. I don’t really care, either. Why should I care what others think or compare with others when nobody’s life is more meaningful than anybody else’s?

Life IS meaningful. Just being-existing makes life meaningful. Everyone leaves their impression or footprint on this earth and in some way in this life. So it cannot be meaningless. You have impressed someones life whether you know it or not; your personality, charm, intelligence has influenced someone, somewhere. Your exuberance in dance has impressed me- it meant something to me.
